International Seminar of "NIT, Gifu College" and Partner Universities

Background

Background

National Institute of Technology, Gifu College (NIT, Gifu College) has been trying to develop practical and innovative engineers those who can be successful internationally , and has aimed for developing and practicing the training program which embody “effective fusion” between “distinctive technical education” and “English education not bound by entrance examination to college” which has been adopted as “Acceleration Program for University Education Rebuilding : AP” by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

NIT, Gifu College has become the base college of the 3rd block (Tokai, Hokuriku, and Kinki area) since 2016 for “Global Kosen Project,” which is one of the NIT projects, according to our past international exchange experiences. Therefore, we have put much more emphasis on educating engineers to correspond the needs of promoting international exchange and the global society. Now we have exchange agreements with 13 colleges of 8 countries and have exchanged students each other using the scholarship program from Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) every year.

Furthermore, we concluded exchange agreements with Vietnamese universities such as Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi Architectural University, and Mientrung University of Civil Engineering in 2017, and have supported the education of technical experts and engineers in Vietnam in the roll of a college for supporting corporation with Vietnam that is one of NIT’s global projects.

Based on the past 4 times of experiences of having held the international seminar with ITB, while expanding its scale, we held the 1st international seminar called “Environmental Sustainability, Disaster Prevention and Reduction, and Engineering Education 2018 (ESDPR&EE2018)” in March 2018, supported by Ogawa Science and Technology Foundation. Its purpose was further exchange between researchers from partner ugniversities and professors from NIT, Gifu College and other 3rd block NIT Colleges and creating international cooperative network. It ends in great success.

The importance of this seminar has been recognized by participants and partner universities. Therefore, ESDPR&EE2019 will be held successively as an international seminar for researchers from partner universities, professors and students from NIT, Gifu College and other 3rd block NIT Colleges.
Students from the 3rd block NIT Colleges are scheduled to join the operation of this seminar for being successful engineers in the future and the practical training for the project management in the global society

ESDPR&EE2019 will be held with the following subjects.

(1) Global urban environmental problems, such as traffic system planning, energy recovery planning from waste treatment system, reduction of the use of fossil fuel and reduction of greenhouse gas emission

(2) Management of urban water problems focusing on the flooding control, the waste water treatment and water pollution control, the protection of coastal environment, and water cycle and environmental control by understanding the needs of both waterworks and sewage system.

(3) Seismic safety and disaster reduction of social infrastructure facilities and urban structures

(4) Education of technicians and engineers who can be successful in the glocal society.

We consider and share ideas about building cooperative relationships, finding issues, and promoting personnel exchanges including young researchers.
Furthermore, we expect this seminar to create international cooperative network for younger researchers by working on problem-solving cooperatively and enforcing systematic program of mutual exchange for researching or training.
We will welcome many researchers and engineers from the 3rd block NIT Colleges and partner universities.
