Department of Civil Engineering

The purpose of civil engineering is to secure and improve the environment of human life through the planning, investigation, design and construction of various facilities which are concerned with environmental conservations, disaster preventaions, water resources, energies and traffic.

Civil engineering, therefore, can be said to lay the foundation of the industry and to contribute to the construction of a peaceful civilized society. The progress and development of civil engineering will have a direct influence on the economical development of a nation and the enrichment of infrastructure.

There are many subjects to be studied in the civil engineering course, but importance is attached to the fundamental subjects in common with each field of this engineering: computer mathematics, surveying, structural mechanics, hydraulics, soil mechanics and planning procedure. To promote the better understanding of fundamental subjects and to develop the ability of practical application, the department has assigned considerable class hours to exercises, experiments, design and drafting.

The purpose of the specialized education in this department is to foster the well cultived and applicable experts with an independent spirit in the inter-nationalization and information oriented society, under a well-balanced curriculum.
